SAES voting solution presented in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Honduras, December 8, 2004.-
Smartmatic Corporation today presented its SAES electronic voting solution to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in Honduras which is presently organizing the nation's primary elections scheduled for February 2005.

According to Tribunal president, Jacobo Hernandez, the installation of an electronic voting system would yield a savings of approximately 15 million Honduran Lempiras (more than $800,000) by doing away with the need to print and transport manual ballots throughout the country. Smartmatic representatives assured the Tribunal stated that the SAES3000 could be either rented or purchased in time for the February 2005 elections.

Smartmatic representatives explained how implementation of the SAES voting technology not only provides a secure means for voters to exercise their vote, but also provides an excellent investment for any nation. Also, because the SAES touch screen voting machines are configured with information on two candidates, including pictures, on one screen, the voting process is made extremely simple.

And, perhaps most importantly, Smartmatic showed the Tribunal how the SAES voting system provides a voter verified paper trail (just one of several ways in which the system can be audited) in order to ensure accuracy and resolve any potential disputes.
