Chicago, IL - March 2, 2007 - Electronic voting proved to be a success during Tuesday's primary municipal elections in the City of Chicago and Cook County, Illinois.Chicago and Cook County used Sequoia's EDGE2plus touchscreen voting unit with Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) technology, the Optech Insight Plus precinct-based optical scanner and a customized Hybrid Activator, Accumulator & Transmitter (HAAT) that allowed precincts with wireless coverage to transmit unofficial election results directly to Election Central using cellular technology.Polls closed at 7:00 p.m. in both jurisdictions. By 8:40 p.m., 75 percent of Chicago's unofficial election results were successfully transmitted, tabulated and reported using Sequoia equipment. By 11:20 p.m., 94 percent of the City's precincts were complete.In Cook County, unofficial election results for 99.5 percent of total precincts were transmitted, tabulated and reported by 9:40 p.m. Final unofficial election results from all City and County precincts were received by the end of the evening."Tuesday's elections were a great success for both Chicago and Cook County", said Jack Blaine, president, Sequoia Voting Systems. You can't get much better than that".Sequoia Voting Systems deployed more than 7,800 pieces of equipment throughout the City of Chicago's 2605 precincts and more than 799 machines throughout Cook County's 190 precincts.More than 50 Sequoia team members provided on-site support to the two jurisdictions throughout Election Day.
