Willemstad, January 25th, 2010.- For the Parliamentary Elections held on January 22nd, 2010 in Curaçao, Smartmatic was again in the island, helping to deploy its voting technology, with the purpose of enabling the Supreme Electoral Council to deliver results timely and with confidence.

In this event the people of Curaçao elected their new representatives for the Parliament, choosing candidates to fulfill the 14 available posts. A full 65% of eligible voters participated in the process.

For the election, 152 voting machines were deployed throughout the island, each machine having two electronic ballots in order to expand available options (that is, to accommodate all candidates and the parties promoting them), and to enable people to cast votes with ease. Smartmatic was in charge of preparing and optimizing the existing voting machines. Also, the company configured the voting system for all the particular events included in the election, such as audits, try outs, training and actual voting, as well as technical support during Election Day.

The voting technology used in Curaçao has been successfully implemented before, in the USA, Latin America and Asia. Smartmatic's voting technology stands apart due to its many advantages, among them its capacity to support multiple audits at different times, namely, before, during and after an election, and to apply various audit methods.
